Weekly News 9/19

This week will be another busy one! We had a wonderful time last Thursday with our grandparents and we looked especially pretty/ handsome in our picture day clothes! We have our field trip to the zoo on Thursday and we will celebrate Campus School’s centennial on Friday. I hope you can join us at 4pm on Friday for the reunion to celebrate our special school.

In reading this week students will share the selection Animal Park. It is a photo journal of an African safari. The comprehension focus is cause and effect. Our spelling skill this week is the short u sound. This is the last short vowel sound! We will continue our statements and questions unit in grammar. The students will learn about “Paul the Period” and “Quenie the Question Mark,” two of our new friends that help us remember when to use the appropriate punctuation mark.

In unit study the students will finish learning about lifecycles and then turn their focus to animal habitats. We will explore forests, oceans, lakes and ponds, deserts, grasslands and the arctic tundra. Look at the great pictures below to see our pasta butterfly life cycles.

In math students will learn subtraction strategies that will help them subtract more fluently. They will practice subtracting with zero, counting back, and using a number line. Be sure to practice addition and subtraction facts at home.

To enhance our animal unit, we will take a field trip to the zoo on Thursday. Be sure to send your child in comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Students will also need to bring a sack lunch as well as their booster seat. If you are chaperoning, a note will go home on Wednesday with car arrangements, directions, and more field trip details.
