Weekly News- 9/12

While we enjoyed our three day weekend last week, a four day week sure is busy! This week we will be getting ready to celebrate the Campus School Centennial. Each classroom will study a decade and represent the years on the booth. Our class' decade is 2001- 2010...the years that the first graders were born!

In reading this week, the students will be reading Get the Egg! The main comprehension skill is sequencing the events in the story. The grammar skill is telling sentences and asking sentences. Telling sentences are statements while asking sentences are questions. To tie our story into grammar this week, the students will be creating an egg riddle. Each student will illustrate an animal in an egg. Then, they will write two telling sentences describing the animal, and one question to lead others to guess what is inside their egg. What a fun way to practice our new grammar skill and review all we have learned about animals! The spelling pattern this week is short e as in net. Please see the spelling tab for a list of this week's spelling words.

As we continue our unit study of animals, the students will be exploring heredity and life cycles this week. The students will match the mother animal to its young. Then, the students will study three different life cycles, starting with their very own life cycle. On Tuesday, the students will need a baby picture and a current picture for a life cycle project. Last, students will learn about the frog and butterfly life cycle.

The focus of math this week is introducing subtration. This is a great time to start practicing subtraction facts at home.

Field Trip permission slips and money are due September 13.

Thursday, September 15- Grandparent's Day & School Picture Day (Students do not have to wear uniforms, but should dress appropriate for school.) A form for pictures went home last Thursday. To receive pictures, you must submit the picture form and a payment by picture day.
