Weekly News 12/5

Can you believe there are only two weeks until Winter Break? I can't! Our holiday party will be next Thursday, 12/15. We also need some items for our classroom, which you can sign up for on the wiki.

I missed the students on Thursday and Friday. I was in Jacksonville, FL presenting research I have worked on during the past year at the Literacy Research Association's annual conference. It was very exciting to meet the famous people of the reading world!

To celebrate this giving season, Campus School is collecting items to donate to the Moriah House and the Mid-South Food Bank
Monday: Paper Products
Tuesday: Toiletry Items
Wednesday: Cleaning Products
Thursday: School Supplies
Friday: Non-Perishable Food Items**
**Bring 1 and student can wear jeans to school, bring 2, jeans and a holiday shirt!

In reading this week we'll share the story Christmas Penguin. Our comprehension focus is theme. In the story Rollie the penguin makes a Christmas wish to fly. Santa takes him along in his sleigh and through events in the story Rollie realizes his own identity and talents are great. The theme of the story is to appreciate your own individuality. In spelling we'll have a long vowel mixed review. In grammar students will learn to write a friendly letter.

Our unit study focus is penguins. Students will learn the many kinds of penguins, where they live, some physical adaptations, and much much more!
In math this week we'll finish up number concepts to 100 and move on to number patterns. We'll be skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's on the hundreds chart, exploring even and odd, and using the 100's chart to find 10 and 1 more and less than a given number. Be sure to continue practicing addition and subtraction facts regularly at home.

December 13 - Dominos Dough Night
December 15 - Class holiday party and skate night
December 16 - Noon dismissal (Polar Express and PJ day)
