First Week News

We've had an OLYMPIC start to the school year!  Yesterday we began with our own version of the Opening Ceremonies for new year.  After learning about the history of the Olympics and about London, the students participated in the "lighting of the torch" with a torch relay game followed by making their own torch. I was very excited that so many of the students are watching the Olympics with their families.

    Today we learned about the different events that the athletes compete in, and about a famous Olympian from Tennessee, Wilma Rudolph. Her bravery and determination led us to create our own goals for second grade.  Look for a note going home about ways you can help your child to reach their goal!  We will continue learning about the Olympics and graph track of the gold, silver, and bronze medals won by the USA. 


Thank you for sending so many supplies and helping your child be prepared for second grade. While we have all been exhausted at the end of the day, the students been enthusiastic and ready to learn! I am  looking forward to a great year!

There are some very important events coming up below, so please read below carefully. 

• Registration packets went home today.  Please complete and return the packet by Friday, August 3.
• Supply fees are $25.  Please send the supply fee by this Friday, August 3.
• Lunch is now $2.00 a day, $9.50 a week, and $38 a month.
• Our support schedule is the same as last year. Wear tennis shoes on Monday (rotating schedule), Wednesday, and Friday for PE! 
• Lunch is at 11:15.  You are welcome to join us any day.
• Next Thursday, August 9 at 6 PM is Meet the Teacher Night.  I hope to see you all there!
