Weekly News 8/6

We had a great start to a new year learning about the Olympics. We set some gold medal goals, reviewed Campus School Champion behavior, and students even competed in some classroom olympic games that encouraged cooperation and determination.  Games like the cotton ball shot put, the paper plate discus, high jump and straw javelin were the class favorites. We will continue to track Team USA's medals until the end of the games. 

This week in the classroom we'll begin our first novel study in reading.  We'll share the story Get Ready for 2nd Grade Amber Brown.  Our comprehension focus will be making text-to-self connections, setting and using context clues to determine word meaning.  There will not be any spelling this week. 

In unit study we'll begin our brain unit! We'll review the 3 parts of the brain and their functions, introduce the right and left hemispheres, the 4 lobes located in the cerebrum, and discuss how information travels to and from the brain through axons and dendrites. The students always love learning about their own bodies! 

In math we'll begin with place value; ones, tens and hundreds.  This is such a fundamental skill that is essential to understanding more advanced math concepts. Students will begin math homefun this week, so please take the time to let them practice the skill independently and then review the concepts together. 


We will continue to review behavior expectations this week and begin sending home planners. Please review and initial your child's planner each day and help ensure that it gets returned to school. This will continue to be an important piece in parent teacher communication.

• All registration packets should be turned in. If you were missing any pieces, I will send home Monday. 
• $25 supply fee needs to be turned in by August 15th. 
• Parent Night is this Thursday at 6:00pm. Childcare for Campus School students is available.
