HOMEFUN NEWS!!!! Please make sure that you child is completing his/her homefun each night. I think the best approach to homefun is to have your child sit down and complete it independently. Then, when they are finished, check the work with a parent. Many of the math concepts that are being introduced are new concepts. Therefore, doing Thursday night's math assignment won't make very much sense on Monday! We had a lot of students that had to finish homefun Friday during recess, so I'm hoping we can all stay on top of it this week! :)
Don’t forget, the How to Project topic is due tomorrow! You can go to the class wiki to sign up. Students need to turn in the completed graphic organizer showing the steps from their project by Monday, November 12th. Students will use this graphic organizer to write in class and will prepare a presentation for the class at home. Presentations will be Nov. 19th-20th.
Campus School’s Cookie Dough Fundraiser ends next Friday, November 16th. The early turn in date is this Wednesday, November 7th. Each student that sells five by the early turn in date needs to return the coupon from the order form to earn a crazy hat. Thank you for supporting Campus School, and remember to never sell to strangers!
This week in reading, we will finish up reading The Candy Corn Contest. This is in the Polk Street series and many of the kids are enjoying a new series! We will focus on cause and effect and drawing conclusions this week, and continue reading AR books to make guesses for our own candy corn contest. We will count the candy on Friday to see who wins our contenst! In grammar, we will be working with subject verb agreement in a sentnce. In spelling, we will make the long e sound using e, ee, y, ea.
In unit study we will be learning more about the government. Tomorrow is a very special day in our country...Election Day! I hope you all plan to vote if you haven't already! We will learn about the voting process tomorrow. Each student will get a voter registration card, learn how to make an informed decision, and finally cast a vote of their own!
In math, we are switching gears to subtration. We will focus on using regrouping with subtration. Remeber, you don't take away a ten because you aren't changing the value, you just exchange it! Studens will be bringing home manipulatives and work mats to use with their homefun, but they need to be returned every morning!
