Weekly News

We had a great first week of school! The students really enjoyed sharing their Mini-Me projects and getting to know each other. Many of the students even already know all their classmates names!

The Entertainment Books that went home last week were the wrong books and are about to expire. New books are going home today. This book may be kept if you are selling books, and any others sold will go home at a later date. If you are NOT selling books, this book must be returned at the end of the month.

We haven't received the Communication Folders that will go home each day. I am, however, sending home a replacement folder until the others arrive. Please bring this folder to school every day! In first grade we encourage the students to be responsible for their own belongings. Please help foster this independence by allowing your child to help pack and unpack his/her backpack at home.

This week will jump right into the first grade curriculum.

In language arts, we will be creating a My School Book, and reviewing beginning and ending consonant sounds while reading Lily's Purple Plastic Purse. We will also be creating beginning sound tounge twisters in preparation for Grandparent's Day next month.

This week in unit study (science/social studies) we will begin our brain study. Students will learn about the human brain, its 3 main parts (cerebrum, cerebellum, and the brain stem) and their functions. On Friday, we are even going to eat brains!!

In math we will explore number concepts. Students will count, compare, order, and write numbers to 20. We will phase in math homefun this week.

*Send in $25 supply fee to cover planners, workbooks and arts in the schools opportunities. Make checks payable to CSPN.

*Thursday 8/11 - Meet the Teacher night from 6:00 - 6:45 PM in the classroom. I will discuss important classroom information. The first CSPN (Campus School Parent Network) meeting will follow in the playroom. Childcare will be available for Campus School students.
