We had a GREAT Grandparents Day at Campus School! The students were such good hosts and hostess to their special visitors. We enjoyed both our company and the delicious food! A special thanks to Mrs. Shepard who orchestrated Grandparents Day for the entire school; our first group of party parents: Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Faulkner, and Mrs. Moore; and all the parents who helped prepare food and clean up! We could have done it without all of your support!
We have another busy week planned with our first field trip and picture day! We will be digging into rocks at the Pink Palace on Wednesday. We will leave school at 9:00 and plan to return around noon. All students must bring a booster seat and a sack lunch. Picture Day is this Thursday, September 13th. Students do not have to wear uniforms, but should dress appropriately! Remember, these pictures will be put in the yearbook.
This week in reading we will be reading Tara and Tiree. The comprehension focus is plot. We will be identifying the climax of the story too. In grammar we will begin nouns. Nouns are people, places, or things. The spelling skill is bossy r (ar, or, and ore) When R follows a vowel, it bosses around the vowel and changes its sound. -ar and -or are found in the middle of a word while -ore is always at the end of the word.
We will finish up our study of soil in unit study on Tuesday. A study guide will go home on Monday in order to prepare for the test on Tuesday. We will begin our study of rocks this week too! Your child will also need to bring 5 rocks on Thursday. We will be identifying the properties of the rocks and performing tests on the rocks as well (sink or float, scratch test, etc.) Make sure to only send rocks that you don't mind getting scratched.
In math we will start the week by adding three numbers. While adding the students will tally the various addition strategies they use to solve. The rest of the week the students will be reviewing subtraction strategies and related facts.
